HMICS Corporate Strategy 2014-2017

Our Corporate Strategy for 2014-17 sets out how HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS) will operate over the next three years. We will build on 157 years of history as a credible, competent and collaborative inspectorate that adds value and strengthens public confidence in Scottish policing. Our statutory purpose is to inquire into the state, efficiency and effectiveness of both the Police Service of Scotland (Police Scotland) and the Scottish Police Authority.

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland: Review of Incident and Crime Recording - December 2013

It is essential that the public are confident that crimes are recorded accurately and ethically by the police, and that Police Scotland uses reliable crime data to effectively deploy its resources to maximise community safety.  HMICS has conducted a national review of incident and crime recording, the first such review since the creation of Police Scotland.

HMICS Review of the Common Performance Management Platform Project

In December 2012, the Cabinet Secretary asked HM Inspectorate of Constabulary Scotland to carry out an inquiry into the Platform project to identify what happened and to draw out lessons for the future successful delivery of police ICT and, more generally, police projects.
